A good site for Baby names

Whenever you go to a baby names site, you expect a list of names ordered alphabetically, seldom do you find a website where all the names are arranged properly with their origin and meanings in place. But today I have come across one such website and am sharing it with all of you. The website is called Babynology. Its not just a source for Baby names, but much more.

This is what motivated to write a review about these people, the detail in which they go to while describing each and every name. Once you go to the website, you'll see names arranged neatly in all sorts of categories, by origin, by meaning etc. and once you click on one of the categories, you'll have an alphabetically accessible list which contains all sorts of names. But wait, it doesn't end here!

It goes further than being just a baby NAMES site and also give you the name meaning of all the names, as well as the area of their origin, you can even leave your review on the name or suggest a better meaning for it if you happen to be aware of it.

So readers, do check out Babynology.com any time you need a name for a little one! This is one site I'm sure won't disappoint you.

NEWS: Quebec's most popular baby names in 2007

Source: Canadian Press

QUEBEC — Lea and William remain the most popular boy names and girl names in Quebec for the second year running.

According to 2007 statistics released by the province on Monday, 456 families picked Lea as the name for their little girl. William was the moniker of choice for 857 families welcoming a boy. The names were compiled from a list of newborns whose parents have applied for child-care assistance.

Jade, Rosalie, Florence and Juliette round out the top five names for girls and Samuel, Gabriel, Nathan and Alexis for the boys.

Apart from some jockeying for position in 2007, there isn't much fluctuation among the boys compared to last year.

Not so for the girl names. Laurie, which was popular enough to claim seventh spot in 2006, fell off the top 20 this year.

And Oceane dropped to number 20 from ninth one year earlier.

Choosing a foreign name

Sometimes, people ask me if it is alright to name their child as a name of a different ethnicity or should they stick to their own names and do that? So I decided to do this blog post about this common question among people, more of a dilemma, whether they could like, choose a name from a different origin for their child.

So first of all, you need to know the name meaning, and not just from one source but from many different sources (even ask a native if you can). This will help you name your child properly since you don't want to end up with a name that means something you don't really like. It happens many times with people who go for names of foreign origin. Sometimes they name their children inappropriately, so, for that to not happen, get the name's meaning validated.

Secondly, you also need to know whether the names are boy names or girl names since sometimes people end up naming their male child with a female name and they are not aware of this because the name is of foreign origin! So like I said above, do confirm the gender the name is meant for from many different sources before proceeding.

Thirdly, make sure the name isn't associated with notoriety, you wouldn't want your child to be named after an African dictator of the Seventeenth century right? So look the name up on Google and check the name for any notorious usage in history.

So there you have it, a short guide on how to choose a foreign name for your child. Do let me know in the comments section if I helped you!

Choosing a name for your baby

Choosing baby names isn't exactly a piece of cake job. Many a times people find themselves online, or maybe with friends, or members of their family, discussing what their baby should be named, now a name in a baby's life as a grown adult will have a lot of significance and importance and thereby it is important to choose a good name for them.

So, a few pointers should be taken care of. Firstly, the name your baby will have should not be one that is too long or too tough to pronounce, remember or understand yet unique. You do not want your child's friends to keep forgetting what his name was. For example I knew someone who had named their child after a Roman saint, however, the name was pretty long and most people found themselves asking again and again trying to remember it.

Now I'm not saying you should name your child another Sean, Paul or David, but there is no shortage of good boy or girl names out there as well. A correct definition of a good name for a baby would be one that is remember-able, short, unique, and has a meaning to it. Also try choosing a name that has less than seven characters, which would be, in my opinion, the ideal number of letters. Good luck!
